What Happens to Inactive Sites on the Free Plan After 90 Days?

On the Infinite Uploads Free plan, a connected site that doesn't check in with Infinite Uploads for 90 days is archived, and its files in the Infinite Uploads cloud are deleted. We email you twice before that happens, and a site that's still serving visitors is never archived this way. This article covers what counts as a check-in, the timeline, what's deleted, and how to keep a site.

Note: This only applies to sites on the Free plan. It doesn't apply to paid plans.

What counts as a check-in

A site checks in every time the Infinite Uploads plugin on it asks our servers for its account data. A connected site checks in:

  • Once a day through a WordPress scheduled task (WP-Cron), while the plugin is active.
  • Whenever the plugin refreshes its account data. It keeps that data for up to 12 hours, and you can refresh it right away with the refresh icon in the top right of the Account & Usage card on the Infinite Uploads screen.

A site stops checking in when the Infinite Uploads plugin is deactivated or disconnected, when the site is taken offline, or when WP-Cron never runs and nobody opens wp-admin. If you've turned off WP-Cron on your site, make sure a server cron job runs it.

The 90-day timeline

Days are counted from the site's last check-in. For a site that has never checked in, they're counted from the day it was connected.

  1. Day 60. We email the account owner a warning with the site's name and the date it will be deleted.
  2. Day 80. We send a final warning.
  3. Day 90. The site is archived and its cloud files are deleted. There's always at least 7 days between the final warning and the deletion, so if the final warning goes out late, the deletion date moves back to match. The deletion date is in both emails.

The emails go to the email address on your Infinite Uploads account, with the subject [your site] will be deleted on [date].

Sites that are never archived for inactivity

  • Sites still serving visitors. If a site's CDN or video served any traffic in the last 7 days, it's skipped, even if it hasn't checked in.
  • Sites that check in again. As soon as a site checks in, its inactivity count starts over and any earlier warnings are cleared. If it goes quiet again later, you'll get new warnings.

What's deleted when a site is archived

Only the inactive site is affected. Your account, your Free plan, and your other connected sites stay exactly as they are. For the archived site, we delete:

  • Its files in the Infinite Uploads cloud. This can't be undone.
  • Its CDN setup, including any custom CDN domain, so media served from the cloud stops loading on that site.
  • Its video library, if the site used Infinite Uploads Video.
  • Its storage keys, so the plugin on that site can no longer upload or read files in the cloud.

Because the files are deleted, any media that only existed in the cloud is lost. If you deleted the local copies of your files from your server after syncing, download them before the deletion date. See Disconnecting, Deactivating, or Deleting the Plugin for how to bring files back to your server.

Once the site is archived, it no longer counts against your Free plan's storage and bandwidth.

How to keep a site

If you got a warning email and want to keep the site:

  1. Make sure the Infinite Uploads plugin is active and connected on the site.
  2. From your WordPress Dashboard, open the Infinite Uploads menu and click the refresh icon in the top right of the Account & Usage card. This checks the site in right away.
  3. Do this before the deletion date in the email.

If you no longer need the site, you don't need to do anything.
