Install the plugin, connect your account, and sync. Your existing Media Library moves to the cloud right away.
2. Point NextGEN's Gallery Storage Inside Uploads
In Gallery, Other Options, Image Options, set "Where would you like galleries stored?" to a folder inside wp-content/uploads. Galleries you create after this offload automatically.
3. Free Up Local Storage
Once the sync completes, remove local copies from Infinite Uploads settings. Photos, thumbnails, and albums keep serving from the CDN.
Good to Know Before You Switch
The default gallery folder sits outside uploads, so offloading needs one setting changed first. Galleries created before you point storage inside uploads keep living in wp-content/gallery until you move or recreate them. New galleries created after the change offload right away.
Importing from your server copies images into the NextGEN folder. The Media Library import in Add Gallery, Import Folder only reads from inside wp-content, and it creates a NextGEN copy rather than linking to the original. Both copies exist and both offload once storage is set.
Watermarking and NextGEN's built-in editor write new files to disk. Resizing, rotating, or watermarking an image creates an edited copy the same way a settings change regenerates thumbnails. None of that breaks offloading, it just means more files move through the same cloud-backed folder.
