Host Your Seriously Simple Podcasting Episodes, Without Filling Your Server Disk

Seriously Simple Podcasting publishes episodes from your Media Library or hands them to Castos hosting. Infinite Uploads makes the Media Library route practical. Audio and video offload to cloud storage and a global CDN, your disk stops filling up, and the feed enclosure stays a direct file URL.

Seriously Simple Podcasting and Infinite Uploads: Self-Hosted Episodes, Without the Disk Bill

Seriously Simple Podcasting is free, and you choose where episodes live. Castos hosts them for a fee. Self-hosting means the Media Library, and audio files are big. A show with a long back catalog fills the disk, swells every backup, and hits your host's upload limit.

Infinite Uploads fixes the self-hosted route. Upload an episode and it offloads to cloud storage automatically. The plugin stores the file URL the Media Library returns, so the feed enclosure stays a plain MP3 or MP4 link. The file now sits on a global CDN instead of your server.

Video episodes follow the same rule. An MP4 in the Media Library serves from the CDN as-is. For adaptive streaming on the episode page, upload to the Video Library and embed with the Infinite Uploads block. The feed itself still needs the plain MP4 file, not the streaming link.

Four Problems Infinite Uploads Solves for a Podcast Site

Offloading plugins move files and stop. Here is what matters when the files are your episodes.

A Growing Catalog Stops Filling Your Disk

An hour of audio is tens of megabytes, and video episodes are far larger. After a few seasons the uploads folder is the biggest thing on the server. Infinite Uploads moves episodes to cloud storage and frees the local copies, so your hosting plan stops growing with every release.

Release Day Stops Hitting Your Server

A new episode sends listeners and podcast apps after the same file at once. With the file on the Infinite Uploads CDN, those downloads come from the edge, not your web server, so a popular release does not slow the rest of your site.

Backups Stop Carrying Every Episode

Years of MP3s turn a small site backup into a huge one. Once episodes live in cloud storage, your backup tool has far less to copy and restore. If a file ever goes missing locally, one-click restore brings it back.

Self-Hosting Stays Cheaper Than a Second Host

Podcasters often add a dedicated host just for storage and bandwidth. Infinite Uploads already includes cloud storage and a global CDN, so self-hosting episodes does not need a second vendor. Check the pricing calculator against your catalog size.

Episodes and Artwork in One Library

Cover art and episode images land in the same Media Library, optimized with Image Optimization, on the Business plan. Media folders, search, and sort keep each season together, so finding an old episode is quick.

Catalog Moves Without Re-Publishing

The first sync moves your existing Media Library, past episodes included. Episodes published from the Media Library keep working, and you can free up local storage once the sync completes.

Every Show on One Account

Networks with several shows, or a WordPress Multisite, connect every site to one Infinite Uploads account. Unlimited sites on one invoice, one usage dashboard, and no cloud credentials to manage.

What Works, Feature by Feature

Feature

What you get

Infinite Uploads logo featuring a blue infinity symbol and the words Infinite Uploads.

Episode audio picked from the Media Library

Upload the MP3 and it offloads to cloud storage. The plugin stores the file URL the Media Library returns, so new episodes point at the CDN.

Works

RSS feed enclosure

The enclosure is that stored file URL, still a direct link to the MP3 or MP4. Check your feed once after the first sync.

Works

File size and duration fields

Picking a file fills size and duration from Media Library data, and the plugin falls back to metadata saved at upload. Offloaded files keep both fields.

Works

Video episode MP4 from the Media Library

The MP4 serves from the CDN as-is, not transcoded. The feed enclosure stays a plain MP4 file URL.

Works

Video on the episode page, adaptive

Upload to the Video Library and embed with the Infinite Uploads block for adaptive streaming in the customizable player. The feed still uses the plain MP4.

Works, Video Cloud

Big episode files

Uploads still obey your host's PHP limit. Castos support lists host limits from 4 MB to 128 MB. Our free Big File Uploads plugin lifts the limit.

Add Big File Uploads

Castos hosting connection

When connected, the plugin uploads episodes from the browser to Castos, not the Media Library. Infinite Uploads has no audio to offload. Artwork still offloads.

Choose one host

Importing a show from another host

The RSS importer saves the old enclosure URL and downloads only images. Upload each MP3 to the Media Library and pick it to move audio.

Audio stays put

Player Download button

That link goes through your site first, which reads the file from its URL. Heavy download traffic can still touch PHP.

Up and Running in Three Steps

1. Connect Infinite Uploads

Install the plugin, connect your account, and sync. Existing episodes, artwork, and video files move to the cloud. The podcast plugin and your feed settings stay as they are.

Blue play button icon

2. Publish Episodes as Usual

Upload the MP3 or MP4 to the Media Library and pick it in the episode editor. The file offloads automatically and the enclosure points at the stored file URL.

3. Free Up Local Storage

After the sync completes, remove local copies from Infinite Uploads settings. Your hosting plan gets its space back and episodes keep serving from the CDN.

Good to Know Before You Switch

Older episodes need a quick feed check. The plugin stores each episode's file URL when you pick the file. After the first sync, open your feed and confirm the enclosure URLs. If an old episode still shows your own domain, pick the file again in the episode editor so the stored URL updates.

The plugin writes a few small working files under uploads. That includes the player color stylesheet, a temporary folder, and a subscribe options export, all under an ssp folder. That folder is not on the automatic exclusion list. To keep it local, add it under Folder Exclusions and test your player colors and export first.

Episode files are public by design. A podcast feed only works when apps can fetch the enclosure URL. An offloaded MP3 on Infinite Uploads is as reachable as one hosted anywhere. Private shows depend on the plugin's own private podcasting integrations, so use the pricing calculator to size storage.

How We Checked

  1. Read the plugin source for how episodes store and output the enclosure URL.
  2. Read its size, duration, upload, and import code for offloaded files.
  3. Read Castos documentation on upload limits, video episodes, and hosting.
  4. Checked the Infinite Uploads source for upload paths and URL handling.
  5. Reviewed the compatibility scan rows for this plugin.

Result: the self-hosted Media Library route fits offloading. We did not run an episode end to end, so check your feed after the first sync.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Infinite Uploads replace Castos hosting?

It replaces the storage and bandwidth part for self-hosted shows. If you connect the plugin to Castos, episodes upload there instead and Infinite Uploads has no audio to offload. Pick one route for episode files.

Will my RSS feed still work?

Yes. The enclosure is the file URL stored on the episode, a direct link to the MP3 or MP4. After the first sync, open the feed and check that the URLs look right.

What about video podcasts?

An MP4 in the Media Library serves from the CDN as-is. For adaptive streaming on the page, upload to the Video Library and embed with the Infinite Uploads block. Video Cloud is on every plan.

Why do my episode uploads fail?

Large audio files usually hit your host's PHP upload limit. Add our free Big File Uploads plugin to lift it, then the file offloads to the CDN as usual.

Are file size and duration still detected?

Yes for files picked from the Media Library. The plugin reads size and duration from Media Library data and falls back to metadata saved at upload, so offloaded files keep both fields.

Do I need to republish past episodes?

No. The first sync moves existing files without republishing anything. Check the feed afterward, and re-pick any old episode whose stored URL still shows your own domain.

Can I move a show imported from another host?

The importer keeps the old host's audio URLs. To move audio onto Infinite Uploads, upload each MP3 to the Media Library and pick it in the episode.

Does it work on Multisite?

Yes. Every site on the network can offload to one Infinite Uploads account. Unlimited sites share one usage dashboard, which suits podcast networks running several shows.
