Sell Big Files With Easy Digital Downloads, Delivered From the Infinite Uploads Cloud

Selling software, video courses, or stock photo bundles through EDD means big files and a launch-day download rush. The Amazon S3 extension fixes bandwidth with buckets, access keys, and a bill you can't predict. Infinite Uploads moves those files to cloud storage and a CDN, no AWS account needed.

Easy Digital Downloads and Infinite Uploads: Big Files Without the S3 Bill

Every digital product store hits the same ceiling. A software installer, a video course, or a stock photo bundle sits in wp-content/uploads/edd, and a launch-day rush eats your host's bandwidth in hours. EDD's own answer is the Amazon S3 extension, another account, a bucket, access keys, and a bill that scales with sales.

Infinite Uploads replaces that setup with one connected account. Files sync to cloud storage and a CDN: no bucket, no keys, no surprise invoice. EDD issues the expiring, limit-checked download link; the file serves faster from the edge nearest the buyer. Product images convert to AVIF and WebP, and a demo video in the Video Library streams through Video Cloud.

EDD keeps doing what it does. Checkout, license keys, subscriptions, and the vendor dashboard in Frontend Submissions work exactly as before. Buyers get downloads that start fast wherever they are, and you get a hosting plan that stops filling up with every product version, backup, and reissued download.

Four Problems Infinite Uploads Solves for an Easy Digital Downloads Store

Most offload plugins move files and stop. These are the parts that matter when the files are what you're selling.

Product Demo Videos and Video Courses, Streamed Like a Platform

Selling a software walkthrough or a full video course through EDD? Upload it to the Video Library and embed it with the Infinite Uploads block, and Video Cloud, included on every plan, encodes it for adaptive streaming and plays it in a customizable player. No Vimeo subscription, no YouTube suggested videos pulling buyers away from checkout.

Product Files and Version History Stop Filling the Disk

Every zip you upload for a new version, plus the ones you keep for support, adds up fast, and a catalog of installers or stock photo packs can fill a shared hosting plan in months. Infinite Uploads moves product files and every kept version to the cloud automatically.

Launch Day Doesn't Overload Your Server Anymore

A product launch or a sale email can send hundreds of buyers to download the same file within minutes, the exact spike that causes bandwidth overages and slow checkouts. With Infinite Uploads the file serves from a global CDN edge, fast for buyers anywhere, including overseas.

Product Images, Screenshots, and Files, Organized and Fast

Product screenshots, cover art, license documents, and every file version live in the same Media Library. Media Folders, search, and sort keep each product's assets together, and screenshots convert to AVIF and WebP so the shop page loads fast for every visitor.

Why Digital Product Stores Pair Easy Digital Downloads With Infinite Uploads

One Bill Instead of an S3 Invoice

Cloud storage, CDN bandwidth, and Video Cloud streaming on one monthly price. No AWS account, no access keys to rotate, no per-request storage bill that grows every time a bundle sells. Free up local storage once the sync finishes.

Migrate a Growing Catalog Without a Rebuild

The first sync moves your existing product files and version history to the cloud and rewrites the URLs. EDD's download settings, license keys, and checkout flow don't change. One click restores files locally if you ever need to.

Every Store on One Account

Agencies running several EDD stores connect every site to one Infinite Uploads account instead of a separate S3 bucket and key pair per client. Unlimited sites on every plan, WordPress Multisite supported, one usage dashboard, one invoice.

Product file downloads (ZIP, PDF, EXE, MP4, and more)

Any file type EDD sells moves from wp-content/uploads/edd to cloud storage and a global CDN. Download links, limits, and expiration work exactly as configured.

Works

Demo videos and video courses on Video Cloud

Upload to the Infinite Uploads Video Library and embed with the Infinite Uploads block. Transcoded for adaptive streaming and played in the customizable player, included on every plan, no Vimeo account needed.

Works, Video Cloud

Force Download method

PHP streams the file from cloud storage straight to the buyer. The real storage URL never appears in the browser or address bar.

Works

Redirect download method

Sends the buyer straight to the CDN URL, the fastest option for very large installers. The true file URL is visible to whoever has the link.

Works

Download link expiration and per-purchase limits

Both settings under Downloads > Settings > Misc still apply. Infinite Uploads changes where the file lives, not how EDD gates it.

Works

Recurring Payments and Software Licensing renewals

Subscription billing and license key renewals are untouched. Infinite Uploads only changes where the licensed product file is stored.

Works

Frontend Submissions vendor uploads

Files vendors submit through the marketplace dashboard offload the same as admin uploads, no separate S3 setup for each vendor.

Works

uploads/edd .htaccess file protection

Doesn't apply once files serve from the CDN instead of that folder. Protection becomes the unguessable cloud URL plus EDD's own expiring, limited download links.

No local .htaccess

Product files larger than your PHP upload limit

Pair with our free Big File Uploads plugin to lift the WordPress upload limit, then offload the finished file.

Up and Running in Three Steps

2. Upload Demo Videos to Video Cloud

Upload the video to the Infinite Uploads Video Library and embed it with the Infinite Uploads block. Video Cloud encodes it for the customizable player.

3. Free Up Local Storage

Once the sync finishes, remove local copies from Infinite Uploads settings. Your hosting plan gets its space back.

Good to Know Before You Switch

Video Cloud is included on every plan, and video counts toward storage and bandwidth. A short demo or a full video course adds up fast; a one-hour 1080p video is roughly 1.5 GB of source plus streaming renditions. Check the pricing calculator before uploading a large course library.

Force Download hides the file URL; Redirect exposes it for speed. Force Download streams the purchase through PHP so the cloud URL never shows, the safer default for most stores. Redirect sends buyers straight to the CDN, faster for very large installers, but anyone with that link can share it.

Every product version and reissued download used to live on your server. Old zips from past releases, plus support reissues, quietly fill a hosting plan over time. Infinite Uploads syncs the whole Media Library, including files from before you installed it, then lets you clear the local copies.

How We Tested

  1. Created a product in EDD with a ZIP file as the download and a demo video uploaded to the Video Library.
  2. Set the Download Method to Force Download and purchased the product as a test buyer.
  3. Switched to Redirect and downloaded the same file again to compare.
  4. Embedded the demo video on the product page with the Infinite Uploads block and confirmed it played through Video Cloud.
  5. Confirmed the download and video URLs pointed to the CDN domain.

Result: everything worked, no configuration needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Infinite Uploads work with EDD's Force Download and Redirect methods?

Yes. Force Download streams the file through PHP so the cloud URL stays hidden, and Redirect sends buyers straight to the CDN, faster for very large files but with the URL exposed. Both work with Infinite Uploads.

Which download method should I use?

Force Download for most products, since it keeps the file URL hidden behind the purchase. Use Redirect only for very large installers where speed matters more than hiding the exact link.

Does the uploads/edd .htaccess protection still work?

No, and that's expected. It only protects files stored on your own server. With Infinite Uploads, protection is the unguessable cloud URL plus EDD's own expiring, limited download links, the same safeguard Amazon S3 users already rely on.

Do Recurring Payments and Software Licensing still work?

Yes. Subscription billing, license key generation, and automatic renewals are untouched. Infinite Uploads only changes where the licensed product file is stored and served from.

Can I still sell video courses without a Vimeo or Wistia account?

Yes. Upload the lesson to the Video Library and embed it with the Infinite Uploads block. Video Cloud, included on every plan, encodes it for adaptive streaming and plays it in a customizable player with no third-party subscription.

Do Frontend Submissions vendor uploads offload too?

Yes. Files vendors submit through the marketplace dashboard offload the same as admin uploads, so you're not setting up separate cloud storage credentials for every vendor.

What if a product file is bigger than my WordPress upload limit?

Add our free Big File Uploads plugin. It lifts the WordPress upload limit without server changes, and Infinite Uploads offloads the finished file once it's uploaded.

Does this replace the Amazon S3 extension?

For most stores, yes. You get cloud storage and a CDN without a bucket, access keys, or a separate AWS bill, all managed from inside EDD's own settings.
