Deleting a folder does NOT delete your files. Your media is safe.
Where Do the Files Go?
When you delete a folder, every file that was inside it moves to Uncategorized. The folder assignment is removed, but the files themselves stay in your Media Library exactly as they were. URLs don't change. Links don't break. Nothing gets removed from your server or CDN.
What About Subfolders?
If the folder you delete has subfolders inside it, those subfolders move up one level. They become children of the deleted folder's parent. If the deleted folder was at the root level, its subfolders become root-level folders.
No subfolder gets deleted. No files inside those subfolders are affected. The tree just flattens by one level where the deleted folder used to be.
How to Delete a Folder
- Click the folder you want to delete in the sidebar.
- Click the Delete button in the sidebar header (or right-click the folder and choose Delete).
- Confirm the deletion.
Can I Undo a Folder Deletion?
No. Once a folder is deleted, it's gone. You'd need to create a new folder and move the files back into it manually. The files themselves are never at risk, but the folder structure is not recoverable. Be sure before you delete.
Quick Summary
- Files in the deleted folder move to Uncategorized.
- Subfolders move up one level in the tree.
- No media files are deleted. Ever.
