After a Media Cleanup scan, the results list and the Media Library Usage<\/strong> column help you review each file before you decide what to keep. This guide covers the tools for working through your results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Filter and search the list<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Go to Media > Media Cleanup<\/strong>. Below the scan card, the results list shows Thumbnail<\/strong>, File<\/strong>, ID<\/strong>, Type<\/strong>, Size<\/strong>, Usage<\/strong>, and Last scanned<\/strong>, 50 files per page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Status views:<\/strong> click All<\/strong>, In use<\/strong>, Possibly unused<\/strong>, or Unknown<\/strong> above the list.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
File type:<\/strong> choose Images<\/strong>, Videos<\/strong>, PDFs \/ documents<\/strong>, or Large files<\/strong> (over 5 MB), then click Filter<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Search:<\/strong> type part of a file name or title and click Search files<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Sort:<\/strong> click the ID<\/strong>, Size<\/strong>, Usage<\/strong>, or Last scanned<\/strong> column heading.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
A good place to start is Possibly unused<\/strong> sorted by Size<\/strong>, so the biggest files are at the top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

See where a file is used<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Hover a file and click Found references<\/strong>. A window lists every place the file was found, with the Source type<\/strong>, the Source<\/strong> (like the post or setting), and How it's used<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The other row actions are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

View attachment:<\/strong> open the file's attachment page.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
View file URL<\/strong> and Copy file URL:<\/strong> open or copy the file's address.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Rescan:<\/strong> check just this file again, which is handy after you edit a page.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Mark as ignored:<\/strong> hide a file you've decided to keep from your review. Click Unignore<\/strong> to undo it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

Note: Rescan<\/strong> isn't available while a full scan is running.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Use the Usage column in the Media Library<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Go to Media > Library<\/strong> and switch to the list view. The Usage<\/strong> column shows each file's status: In use<\/strong>, Possibly unused<\/strong>, Unknown<\/strong>, Ignored<\/strong>, or Not scanned<\/strong> for files uploaded since the last scan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The column only appears in the list view, not the grid view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Export to CSV<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Click Export CSV<\/strong> on the scan card to download `media-library-usage-YYYY-MM-DD.csv<\/code>. It includes the attachment ID, file, type, size, usage status, references, whether it's ignored, the file URL, and when it was last scanned. It's an easy way to hand a cleanup list to a client or your team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n`
Deleting files you don't need<\/h2>\n\n\n\nMedia Cleanup never deletes anything. When you've confirmed a file isn't needed, delete it from Media > Library<\/strong> as usual.
