Starting with Infinite Uploads 3.4, you can manage your media by chatting with an AI tool such as WPVibe, Novamira or Respira. Ask in plain words, and your AI tool connects your site, moves your media to the cloud, and finds, uploads and organizes your files. It follows the same WordPress permissions and plan rules as the Infinite Uploads screen in your dashboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How It Works<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Here's what setting up Infinite Uploads with an AI tool looks like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ask your AI tool to install and connect Infinite Uploads.<\/strong> For example: \"Install Infinite Uploads and connect this site.\" If your AI tool can't install plugins, install Infinite Uploads from your Plugins<\/strong> screen first, then ask it to connect the site.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Click the link it gives you.<\/strong> Your AI tool replies with a link to infiniteuploads.com and a short code. Open the link, check that the code matches, and approve the connection. Your AI tool waits while you do.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Your AI tool keeps going.<\/strong> Once you approve, it finishes connecting your site, scans your media and copies it to the cloud. Some AI tools check with you before they send your files. If yours does, say yes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Tell it to turn on Infinite Uploads.<\/strong> When your files are in the cloud, your AI tool asks whether to switch your site over. Say yes, and your site starts loading media from the Infinite Uploads cloud and CDN.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

Some AI tools ask before they send your files to the cloud. If yours does, say yes. You can also ask for both in one request, like \"Connect this site and move our media library to the cloud,\" so it has less reason to stop and check. Once the sync starts, it runs in the background on your server, so you can close the chat and ask how it's going later. When it finishes, your AI tool asks you before it switches your site over to load media from the cloud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ask your AI tool to look for a file before you upload it again. It searches your Media Library by title, alt text, caption, description, file name, file type or folder, then tells you which folder the file is in and the address to use on your pages, so you don't end up with a second copy. Because it reads alt text, a photo saved as IMG_4521.jpg turns up when you ask for \"red sneakers\" if that's what its alt text says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you ask for an upload, your AI tool puts the file in the folder you name, and creates the folder if it doesn't exist yet. It can upload an image from a web link, and some AI tools also let you add a file from your computer. WPVibe, for example, opens an upload box in the chat where you choose the file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Infinite Uploads 3.4 or later.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
WordPress 6.9 or later.<\/strong> Your AI tool finds Infinite Uploads through a feature built into WordPress 6.9. On older versions, Infinite Uploads works as usual, but your AI tool won't see it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
An AI tool connected to your site,<\/strong> such as WPVibe, Novamira or Respira. Set it up by following that tool's own instructions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Your site connected to Infinite Uploads<\/strong> for most jobs. That takes an Infinite Uploads account with an active plan (a free trial counts), and your AI tool can connect the site for you. If you don't have an account yet, your AI tool can give you the signup steps.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
What Your AI Tool Can and Can't Do<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
With Infinite Uploads, your AI tool can:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Get around your plan or your WordPress permissions.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
Upload files WordPress wouldn't accept.<\/strong> Every upload gets the same file-type checks as any other WordPress upload.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Get your storage keys.<\/strong> Infinite Uploads never hands the private keys that connect your site to your storage to your AI tool.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Who Can Do What<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Your AI tool works on your site through a WordPress user account, and it can only do what that account could do in your dashboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Administrators<\/strong> can do all of it: connect the site, scan and sync, switch the site over, bring files back, and clear the CDN cache, plus everything Editors can do. On a multisite network, that's a Super Admin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Editors<\/strong> can find, upload and organize media. They can create folders, move files between folders, and rename or move the folders they created.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Authors<\/strong> can find and upload media, and organize their own uploads.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Only an Administrator can rename or move a folder someone else created. See Who Can Manage Folders on a Site With Multiple Users?<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
What It Always Asks You First<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Some steps change your whole site, or can't be undone, so they wait for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n
Connecting your site.<\/strong> Your AI tool gives you a link and a short code, and nothing connects until you approve it at infiniteuploads.com.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Switching your site over.<\/strong> Copying your files to the cloud doesn't change where your site loads media from. When a sync finishes, Infinite Uploads tells your AI tool that switching over is your decision, and your AI tool asks you first. It never happens on its own.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Starting the file scan over.<\/strong> If your site was scanned before, your AI tool may need to restart the scan. Restarting clears Infinite Uploads' record of which files are already in the cloud, then scans your uploads again. Because that can't be undone, your AI tool asks for your approval before it runs. In WPVibe, for example, you get a link to an approval page that says the action is destructive, with Approve and execute<\/strong> and Decline<\/strong> buttons. Only approve it if you asked for a scan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

Note: If you've used Free Up Local Storage<\/strong> to delete the local copies of your files, decline a scan restart and contact our support team first. Files that only exist in the cloud drop off Infinite Uploads' records when the scan starts over, and a new scan can't find them again.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Using an AI Tool on a Multisite Network<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
On a WordPress multisite network, Infinite Uploads is set up once for the whole network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n
Connect, scan, sync and switch over from the main site,<\/strong> using a Super Admin account. Scanning, syncing, switching over and bringing files back only work on the main site.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
On every other site,<\/strong> your AI tool can still find, upload and organize that site's media. Each site keeps its own folders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\nSee How Infinite Uploads Handles WordPress Multisite Uploads<\/a> for more on how a network is set up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Names You Might See in Your AI Tool<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
You don't need to know these. Ask in your own words and your AI tool picks the right action. If it shows which Infinite Uploads action it's running, here's what they're called:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are two ways to check that your AI tool is working with Infinite Uploads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ask your AI tool:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Ask something like \"What's the Infinite Uploads status of this site?\" Your AI tool should tell you whether the site is connected, your plan, your CDN URL, how many files are left to sync, and whether your site loads media from the cloud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From the WordPress Dashboard:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Go to Media > Library, open the folder you asked your AI tool to use, and click the file to open the Attachment details. Once your site loads media from the cloud, the File URL uses the Infinite Uploads url assigned to your media library. It should look something like https:\/\/efd3f.infiniteuploads.cloud\/<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Troubleshooting<\/h2>\n\n\n\nMy AI Tool Doesn't See Infinite Uploads<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
\n
Check that your site runs Infinite Uploads 3.4 or later (on the Plugins<\/strong> screen) and WordPress 6.9 or later (under Dashboard > Updates<\/strong>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Make sure Infinite Uploads is active on the Plugins<\/strong> screen.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Make sure your AI tool is connected to this site, not a different one.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
If your AI tool says it can't reach a WordPress site at all, its connection to your site isn't turned on in this chat. Turn it on in the AI tool's connector settings and ask again.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
If you updated Infinite Uploads or WordPress after connecting your AI tool, start a new conversation or reconnect the site in your AI tool, so it picks up the change.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
On a multisite network, scanning, syncing, switching over and bringing files back only show up on the main site. That's expected.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\nMy AI Tool Says It Doesn't Have Permission<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Your AI tool is using a WordPress account that can't do that task. Check the account's role against Who Can Do What, above. Connecting, syncing and switching over need an Administrator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two messages come from the folder and file rules rather than the account's role:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n
\"You can only rename folders you created.\" or \"You can only move folders you created.\" means another user made that folder. An Administrator can rename or move it. See Why Can't I Rename, Move, or Delete a Folder?<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
A message that starts \"You do not have permission to edit attachment\" and ends \"Nothing was moved.\" means the account can't edit one of the files you asked to move, so the whole move was stopped. Nothing moved and nothing was lost. Leave that file out, or use an Administrator or Editor account.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Image Optimization or a CDN Purge Needs the Business Plan<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Your AI tool follows the same plan rules as the Infinite Uploads screen. Image Optimization and clearing your whole CDN cache are included with our Business plans, which start at $24\/mo billed yearly, or $29\/mo billed monthly. You'll run into this when your AI tool:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

reports that image optimization is off and can be turned on from the Infinite Uploads settings screen (Business plan), or<\/li>\n\n\n\n
says \"CDN purge is available on the Business plan with Image Optimization enabled.\"<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
To use them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turn on Image Optimization from the Infinite Uploads<\/strong> screen in your dashboard. Infinite Uploads doesn't give your AI tool a way to switch it on. See Enabling Image Optimization<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Ask your AI tool again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
A full purge also runs at most once an hour. If your AI tool says \"The CDN cache was purged recently. Please wait up to an hour before purging again.\", try again once the hour is up. See Purging the CDN Cache After Changing Settings<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note: You don't need a full purge after deleting a file. When you delete media, we clear it from the CDN automatically on every plan.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
The Sync Seems Slow or Stuck<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
First, the reassuring part: the sync runs in the background on your server and keeps going after you close the chat. A large library can take hours. See How Long Does It Take to Sync Files to Infinite Uploads Cloud Storage?<\/a> for estimates. Ask your AI tool \"How's the sync going?\" whenever you like, and it tells you how many files are left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If the number of files left doesn't go down between checks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n
Ask your AI tool whether WordPress's scheduled tasks are turned off on your site. Its status check shows this, and the background sync can stall without them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
If they're off, ask your host to turn them back on or to run them on a schedule. Your host may call them WP-Cron.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Or open the Infinite Uploads<\/strong> screen in your dashboard and click Sync Now<\/strong>. That sync runs in your browser, so keep the tab open until it finishes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

Note: Don't ask your AI tool to restart the scan to unstick a sync. Restarting clears the record of which files are already in the cloud.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
My Site Still Loads Media From Its Own Server After the Sync<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
That's by design. Copying your files to the cloud and switching your site over to load them from the cloud are two separate steps, and the second one is your call. When you're ready, tell your AI tool to go ahead, for example \"Enable cloud serving.\" Or open the Infinite Uploads<\/strong> screen in your dashboard and click Enable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you've already switched over and your pages still load images from your own domain, be sure and clear your cache including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Switching Over Didn't Free Up Space on My Server<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
That's expected. Syncing copies your files to the cloud, and switching over changes where your site loads them from, but neither step deletes the copies on your server. Your AI tool can't delete them either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To free up that space, open the Infinite Uploads<\/strong> screen in your dashboard. Once your site loads media from the cloud, the Free Up Local Storage<\/strong> section shows how many local copies can be deleted and how much space they take. Click Delete<\/strong>, then Start Delete<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
