{"id":11706,"date":"2026-06-08T16:11:30","date_gmt":"2026-06-08T21:11:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/infiniteuploads.com\/?post_type=docs&#038;p=11706"},"modified":"2026-06-08T16:11:32","modified_gmt":"2026-06-08T21:11:32","password":"","slug":"enable-large-file-uploads-in-contact-form-7","status":"publish","type":"docs","link":"https:\/\/infiniteuploads.com\/docs\/big-file-form-uploads\/enable-large-file-uploads-in-contact-form-7\/","title":{"rendered":"Enable Large File Uploads in Contact Form 7"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Big File Form Uploads removes the file size ceiling from Contact Form 7 file fields automatically.<\/strong> Once the add-on is active, any <code>[file]<\/code> tag in your forms inherits the maximum upload size you set in Big File Uploads &mdash; no shortcode options to edit and no <code>limit:<\/code> value to calculate by hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This guide shows you how to add a large-file upload field to a Contact Form 7 form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"before-you-start\">Before You Start<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Make sure the following are active:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Big File Uploads<\/strong> (free parent plugin), with your maximum upload size set under <strong>Settings &rarr; Big File Uploads &rarr; Uploading Files<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Big File Form Uploads<\/strong> (the add-on).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Contact Form 7<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If any of these is missing, your file field will fall back to Contact Form 7's default limits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step-1-add-a-file-field-to-your-form\">Step 1: Add a File Field to Your Form<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to <strong>Contact &rarr; Contact Forms<\/strong> and open the form you want to edit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place your cursor where the upload field should go.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the <strong>file<\/strong> tag generator in the form editor toolbar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Generate the tag and insert it. You'll end up with something like:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>[file your-file]<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You do <strong>not<\/strong> need to add a <code>limit:<\/code> option. Big File Form Uploads sets the limit for you based on your Big File Uploads setting &mdash; any <code>limit:<\/code> you add by hand is replaced automatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step-2-add-the-field-to-your-mail-template\">Step 2: Add the Field to Your Mail Template<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Open the <strong>Mail<\/strong> tab and make sure the file tag is referenced so the uploaded file is attached or linked in the notification email, for example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>[your-file]<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step-3-save-and-test\">Step 3: Save and Test<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click <strong>Save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visit the page where the form is embedded.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You'll see a <strong>\"Click to select file\"<\/strong> area in place of the standard file button &mdash; this is the chunked uploader.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose a large file and submit the form.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the file uploads, it is sent to your server in small chunks. The form will not submit until the upload completes, so your submission always includes the full file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"good-to-know\">Good to Know<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Where files are stored.<\/strong> Completed uploads are saved to your uploads directory under <code>\/cf7_uploads\/<\/code>.
